It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog for my fans and supporters. So I figured the Olympic break would be a good time to do it. As most of you may know the first half of our season has been a rocky one. Unfortunately we have suffered quite a few injuries, which ultimately has led up to us losing a lot of games. From the side lines I’ve seen a lot of good things from my teammates, with quite a few people stepping into different roles. Sammy has done a good job running our team as a rookie. It hasn’t been easy but she’s getting better every game. DB has stepped up big time for us. She’s playing her butt off and putting up numbers on a consistent basis. Charde and Hornbuckle have also moved into the starting line up and both have been solid in having a positive impact on our team. KT has also shown what she can do and has proven that she can play solid minutes. I am hopeful that we will have a better second half to the season once people have the opportunity to get some rest and heal some nagging injuries over the break.
To start off the break, we were given around 8 days off. I decided I’d go home to Boston to visit some extended family for a few days and then head to my house in Florida, and to spend time with my lovely little nephew. I had an opportunity to take him to the children’s museum, he had so much fun we had to bribe him to leave. I also had the chance to spend some time with my mom who has now moved from Germany back to the states!! *fist pump* Like always I had a great time with the family and definitely look forward to seeing them again.
As most of you know, I injured my knee mid June, and have been out ever since. The knee first flared up last summer, but with the help of my trainer and a series of different lubricating shots, my knee hasn’t been too much of an issue. In June I hit knees with an opposing player and had what we thought was a pretty bad bone bruise. I told my trainer I could still play but after doing a few exercises there was no way I’d even be able to run. After weeks of treatment and rest, I’ve made the decision to go ahead and have the knee scoped. Shouldn’t be too long of a surgery and hopefully the nagging pain I’ve had will be gone once I complete the rehab process. My surgery is scheduled for today (7/24), and I’m actually writing this blog while sitting here in the waiting room. I’ll be sure to let you all know how the surgery goes!!
Until then, GO MERC!!
